In vitro and in vivo Antitrypanosomal Activities of Annona muricata Leaf Extracts in Trypanosoma brucei brucei Experimentally Infected Albino Rats

Aims: Trypanosomiasis is an important protozoan disease that affects domestic and wild animals as well man. It caused by the tsetse fly-transmitted extracellular hemo-flagellates belong to genus, Trypanosoma. In East Southern Africa, Human African (HAT) Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense while in West Central it T. b. gambiense. Animal trypanosomiasis on other hand brucei, vivax, congolense. sub-Saharan about sixty million people are at risk of infection. This current study evaluates antitrypanosomal efficacy extracts Annona muricata leaf infected albino rats.
 Place Duration Study: Parasitology Microbiology Research Unit, Department Production Health, Federal University Technology, Akure, Nigeria, between February June, 2021.
 Methodology: vitro analysis was done varied concentrations 2.5mg/ml, 5mg/ml 10mg/ml using various solvent (ethanolic, ethyl acetate, n-hexane, chloroform aqueous). The vivo assay carried out through intraperitoneal administration graded doses (200, 400 600mg/kg) acetate plant for three consecutive days.
 Results: yielded high percentage DPPH free radical scavenging activity 85.52, 80.00 78.49% Decrease motility parasites different times observed all tested invitro. These responses positively concentration-dependent. concentration showed complete cessation parasite 35 45 minutes two (ethyl extracts) which best invitro responses, subjected invivo analysis. Both decrease trypanosome parasitemia prolongation mean survival days rats 14.67days compared with 6.83days control group. displayed dose-dependent significant (p ≤ 0.05) activities when controls.
 Conclusion: a relatively higher over this study. Further fractionation, purification isolation should be confirm active components responsible recorded.
